A cleanroom is a space created with a specific air flow pattern and controlled temperature, humidity, and particle count. In these rooms, the impact of contaminants coming from the external environment is minimized, ensuring that products or processes are carried out safely. Cleanrooms are classified according to specific standards (for example, ISO 14644), and each class permits a certain amount of particles.

Types of Cleanrooms

  1. Class 100 Cleanroom: May contain only 100 particles of 0.5 microns or larger. It is generally used in electronics and semiconductor manufacturing.
  2. Class 10,000 Cleanroom: Permitted to contain 10,000 particles of 0.5 microns or larger. It is ideal for pharmaceutical manufacturing.
  3. Class 1,000,000 Cleanroom: Has less stringent standards and can be used in food production.

Cleanroom Applications

  • Pharmaceutical Industry: Cleanrooms are used in the manufacturing and packaging of pharmaceuticals in order to reduce the risk of infection.
  • Semiconductor Manufacturing: Careful environmental control is required in the production of electronic components.
  • Biomedical Research: Cleanrooms are essential for the safety of sensitive experiments conducted in laboratory environments.
  • Food Production: To ensure food safety, it is important to comply with hygiene standards in cleanrooms.

Cleanroom Features

  • Air Filtration: Particles in the air are cleaned using HEPA or ULPA filters.
  • Controlled Air Flow: Air flow ensures that particles inside the room are expelled and reduces contamination.
  • Temperature and Humidity Control: In cleanrooms, specific temperature and humidity levels are continuously monitored and controlled.

Cleanroom Installation and Maintenance

Cleanroom installation must be carried out by expert engineers. After installation, regular maintenance and cleaning procedures should not be neglected. Periodically replacing air filters increases the efficiency of the room.

Cleanrooms play a critical role in many industries. In terms of product safety and quality, the correct use and maintenance of cleanrooms is of great importance. Complying with cleanroom standards both increases the efficiency of the production process and provides reliable products for the end user.
